This $25 device will double the internet speed on your computer

Google Wifi If you use a modern home Wi-Fi solution like the  Google Wifi  or our favorite mesh system, the  AmpliFi HD , you’re undoubtedly enjoying lightning fast internet all over your home. It’s great for phones, tablet, and other light-duty devices, but we have a better recommendation for your PC, streaming devices, or anything else that needs the fastest and most reliable connection possible. Wiring your house for Ethernet is a pain in the neck, which is why devices like the  TP-Link AV200 Nano Powerline Adapter Starter Kit  are so fantastic. You get the same reliability and sustained speeds as you would with cat5, but you don’t need to install anything at all. Plug one box in near your router, another box near your PC, and you’re done! Here are the highlights from the product page: Up to 200Mbps speed for seamless HD video streaming and online gaming300-meter range over electrical circuitry for better performance through walls and floorsMiniature design with compact housing

Nokia 8 flagship phone to launch on August 1

HMD is set to roll out a new Nokia branded phone. It’s not just another Android smartphone but it’s the brand’s first ever premium flagship smartphone. This new mobile device will be announced officially on August 16 in London. Press invites are now out, following the recent leak about the handset. The upcoming Nokia 8 is expected to feature Carl Zeiss optics. We’re not surprised about this because the two have previously partnered already. We’re just curious how the camera technology will play well with the new Android phone. Nothing has been confirmed yet but here are the Nokia 8 specs and features we know so far: a 5.3-inch display screen, 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution, 13MP rear camera with Carl Zeiss optics, Snapdragon 835 processor as we  noted  earlier, 64GB onboard storage, 4GB or 6GB RAM, and dual SIM support. We’ve seen the  blue version  last week while a  copper colored Nokia 8  appeared yesterday. A silver version is also expected to be introduced. We can also expect th

Microsoft Among Tech Companies Creating an Ethereum Blockchain Alliance

Technology giant Microsoft is reportedly among several other industry firms alongside banks and financial institutions coming together to form a new blockchain working group called the ‘Enterprise Ethereum Alliance’. The coalition of tech firms and banks aim to accelerate the adoption of Ethereum’s public blockchain technology in corporations and enterprises, according to a  Bloomberg  report. Flocking to Ethereum With companies like Microsoft pushing toward development and service offerings, Ethereum, as a smart contracts-based public blockchain is seeing a number of adopters in the corporate space. Companies and financial institutions working on their own private blockchains are increasingly choosing to fork Ethereum. In early 2016, a year revealing several blockchain prototypes and proof-of-concepts, one of the  earliest known cases  of a banking collective using a blockchain to transfer value came to light. A total of 11 banks across four continents from the R3-led banking con

Don't Waste Money on Intel's Top Processor

Image: Alex Cranz/Gizmodo It’s time to replace your computer. Maybe it was purchased during the last Republican administration, or you ruined it was a spilled drink, or maybe you’ve just got some money to burn and you’d like to blow it on Intel’s  new Kaby Lake microarchitecture . Whatever the reason, you’re ready to upgrade your computer, and you’re going to be left with a big choice. Do you spend the extra cash for the categorically faster i7 processor, or do you pinch a few pennies and go with the i5. After running both processors (the 4.5GHz i7-7700K and the 4.2GHz i5-7600K) through the ringer in a computer that was otherwise the exact same, we can say, without a doubt, that you should save your money. For most people the i7 just isn’t worth it. Intel introduced the i7 and i5 brands back in 2007 as a way of guiding customers. The i5 was for “mainstream” use and the i7 was for “high-end” and business use. Spend a little extra money and the i7 should do everything faster and bette

Google, unlike Microsoft, must turn over foreign emails: U.S. judge

A U.S. judge has ordered Google to comply with search warrants seeking customer emails stored outside the United States, diverging from a federal appeals court that reached the opposite conclusion in a similar case involving Microsoft Corp. U.S. Magistrate Judge Thomas Rueter in Philadelphia ruled on Friday that transferring emails from a foreign server so FBI agents could review them locally as part of a domestic fraud probe did not qualify as a seizure. The judge said this was because there was "no meaningful interference" with the account holder's "possessory interest" in the data sought. "Though the retrieval of the electronic data by Google from its multiple data centers abroad has the potential for an invasion of privacy, the actual infringement of privacy occurs at the time of disclosure in the United States," Rueter wrote. Google, a unit of Mountain View, California-based Alphabet Inc, said in a statement on Saturday: "The magistrate i
